How do you create a p.96 file? Do you like create a text file with frequencies(or use a cvs file) and then change the extension to .p96? This is going to be for virtual scanner.

just load win96 & a blank template will come up & start either importing from RR if you are a premium subscriber or copy & paste whatever you wish to have in it, save it & then load into your scanner to whatever virtual bank you wish for it to be in , read your manual for detailed instructions

I have win96(which I've used to directly fill the banks) and there IS no option for that in virtual scanner mode in Win96.

How do you create a p.96 file?
You open Win96, select "File -> New Template", enter (or import, or download) data, then select "File -> Save". That "creates" a .P96 file which can then be used in Win96's Virtual Scanner dialog.

I guess we are missing what you are wanting to do here? Let me try to rephrase it so we are all on the same page. You are wanting to load an unique set of frequencies into one or more of the virtual folders in the scanner. Is that correct?

If so, load the program and from the menu select FILE, NEW. A blank template will come up. Create your template using the frequencies you will want in that vitirual folder just like you were going to load that template into working memory. Instead of loading it to the scanner's working memory, save it as a *.p96 file on your computer and give it a descriptive name, "SW-PODUNK COUNTY.p96" or some such. Repeat this until you have a p96 file saved for each virtual folder you want to load. Go into the SCANNER menu and select VIRTUAL SCANNER and click the WRITE box for each folder you want save to. A dialog comes up and asks you the p96 file name for that folder. Select the correct p96 file you just saved and move to the next folder. Once you have all the folders selected you want to refill, select the COMMIT button. This will load each of the files into the correct folder. You WILL have to have a saved p96 file for each virtual folder you want to load.

As you said, it needs to be a p96 file FIRST before loading into the virtual folder. You can import a comma seperated value file into WIN96 and then save it as a p96 and then load it into the virtual folder. You can also import from RR database into WIN96 and save it as a p96 and then load it into a virtual folder. You just can't skip the step of saving it as a p96 file before loading it into the scanner.....

I caught on to it on DonS's post and tried it that way and was able to create and put a .p96 file in a virtual folder, thanks to all for drilliing into my thick skull to see the light :) Never tried to mess with virtual scanner before and wasn't sure how creating a .p96 and putting it in works. I now have what I need when I want to load the .p96 I need when I visit my son.
