• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

After years of scrimping and saving, my wife and I managed to follow a dream and buy an MCI bus.

Over the next year we will be outfitting it in New Jersey to get it ready for a year or travel across the states.

I am looking for recommendations on a good radio, band and license.
I thought about a 100 watt VHF radio for long distance.

Can I get any recommendations for a good travel radio that can be installed?

Thanks in advance

I'm looking to have something for emergencies when outside cell range. Prob Ham for emergencies. I am going for my 2M ham test in November.

You can get a decent 2m/440 ham dual bander for about $300 new. Most are about 50 watts on 2M and 35 watts on 440. Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu and Alinco are the most popular makes and there are some el-cheapo Chinese brands out there as well.
