LibreOffice -- an freeware alternative to Microsoft Office ($) for Windows, Mac and Linux -- is my favorite office application Home » LibreOffice. Its "Calc" spreadsheet component handles CSV files that various scanner programs make use of. I use the spreadsheet to reorganize data files. Version 3.6 of LibreOffice was just released, and the spreadsheet CSV enhancements include the following :
"Improved CSV file import.
"Handle lines with more than 64k characters (bug report: fdo#48501)
"Differentiated different error messages (bug report: fdo#48516)
"Better handling of broken CSV files where generator didn't follow RFC 4180 quote rules (bug report: fdo#48621)
"Import numbers in scientific notation without having to check "import special numbers" (bug report: fdo#39716)
"Better initial default separators, comma, semicolon and tab (bug report: fdo#38088)"
I have some additional comments on LibreOffice at Jottings.
