They have a new narrowband frequency...453.1750. They had been using it alongside 462.975 for quite a while. I had been in contact with Ted Wise and, the last I had heard, they were still testing to ensure adequate coverage prior to cutting over to the new narrow frequency. The testing must be done and it been determined that coverage is acceptable.

I noticed that all traffic was on the new frequency on the way home. If it stays that way for a couple of days, I will submit to the admins of the PA database to remove the old frequency.

I sent an e-mail to the new Director of the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety asking if the change is permanent. It seems to be. The little bit of traffic I heard on the way in was on the new frequency.

Are they going to eventually move fire to that new frequency to replace the low band?

Their EMS dispatch seems to all be on that frequency now. Dispatch sounds a little muffled.

Yes, I have not heard a single dispatch on 462.975. I would say that they are probably transitioned over to the new frequency. I agree that it does sound a bit muffled, but it appears to be clearer and stronger. Granted, I brought my portable to work and have it hooked up to my RS mag mount antenna set high on my hutch.

Today I am getting a lot of interference on the narrowband frequency in the Wertzville Road area of Hampden Township. Almost to the point where I can't listen to it because of all the interference. It's just a rushing noise if that makes sense.

Sometimes, the signal isn't as good if they are on a different tower. The rushing sound...is it like you turned your squelch down the whole way? Have you checked your squelch setting? Do you have the CTCSS tone set? It should be 131.8. If so, then squelch level should not be an issue.

It was better today. I do not have a tone set. I'm not sure how to do that with my scanner. I have an old Bearcat Trunktracker.

What's the model number? It's quite possible depending on the age. I don't think there are any nearby agencies using that frequency, so interference shouldn't be an issue.

From a quick glance at the manual, it doesn't look like the BCT8 has the ability to program tone. But that shouldn't really be an issue for you...at least with this frequency.

I still have not had a response back from the new Director of the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety. Unsure if he's on vacation, forgot or is just not receptive to questions from the public. I would hope it is not the latter. His predecessor was quite responsive as is the current Director for Perry County.

That being said, I have heard nothing on 462.975 in almost a week. I'm going to just assume that the cutover is permanent and remove it from my scanner over the long holiday weekend.
