I saw in today's Akron Beacon Journal that Silver Lake village in Summit County has dropped their dispatching contract for public safety with the city of Stow. They now will use Cuyahoga Falls for dispatching. Wonder if Silver Lake will need to buy new radios as Cuyahoga Falls is on 800mhz and Stow/Silver Lake used VHF-Hi band.

If Silver Lake is smart, they will buy the Digital Capable Motorola Radios instead of Analog only like Cuyahoga Falls' System currently is.

Cuyahoga Falls is moving to the digital Summit County Regional Radio Network, supposedly 01/01/08. They most likely will take over Munroe Falls police/fire/ems dispatch also at same time.

I'll believe that when I hear that from you or Frank. You would think they'd be doing radio testing on the Summit County system before just 'going live'. I'm sure it will take a while to figure out the talkgroups.

Since most of the CFPD & CFFD talkgroups default to the 86*.**** frequencies, will those frequencies be absorbed in to the Summit County system? Or, will the Analog system remain in place for City Services?

I wouldn't count on anything yet. The info about Munroe Falls possibly going w/ CF for dispatching came from the Akron Beacon Journal. It also mentioned Mogadore. With saying both MF and Mog, I'd say they were just referring to CF's attempt to lure a bunch of the SSCOG members away from the Stow regional dispatching.

As for CF city services, I last thing I remember hearing on their fate was they would remain on the current system.

At this time, no one is doing any testing on Summit 800.

Here is text from Cuy Falls website, posted 10/1/07 ...

Dispatch Center Progress -
Our new dispatch center is getting closer to completion. We have made preparations
regarding fiber optic communication links between the new Dispatch Center, City
Building and transmitter site. Physical work has begun on the dispatch room and all of
the major equipment has been ordered. New radios for the Police Department have arrived
and will be in service in time for our cut-over to the county radio system. Interoperable
communications agreements with neighboring communities are in the works. Although we've had such understandings in the past, lack of radio compatibility made it difficult. Since most of the nearby agencies are on the county system, or will soon, this will no longer be an obstacle.

Silver Lake

I live in Silver Lake. The Silver Lake Police have had APCO-25 radios ( Motorola Astro 2500's) for over a year waiting to go with Stow when their system switched to Akron/Summit. These radios never got out of the box. They'll need to be flashed with the Akron/Summit info and get the Falls TG's flashed in (and any other TG's deemed necessary). The "word" is Mayor Robart of the Falls was incensed when Stow went in and "stole" the Falls Muni Court. Getting Silver Lake to go with the Falls (for about half of what Stow was going to charge) for Fire/EMS and dispatching is going to take $300,000.00 right out of Stow's pocket. Stow Fire answered 220 alarms in Silver Lake last year, mostly EMS runs. At less than one run per day, Falls Fire won't be under much stress handling Silver Lake.

Going to be interesting to see how EMS runs for traffic accidents on Graham Road are going to be handled. The meandering corporation line, mixed with cell phone calls of accidents most likely will generate dual response from Stow & Falls sending 2 EMS units, a fire truck (Falls SOP), two shift commanders .. and Stow will beat Cuy Falls units everytime. And different talkgroups for communications ..

My prediction .. chaos ...

Does Stow have plans to switch to the Summit County MERC system anytime soon?

Stow has already agreed to move to Summit System .. they were just waiting on the Regional Dispatch Center concept (which now appears doomed) before beginning their existing dispatch center console conversion, to new system.

No Stow (or Cuy Falls) TGs identified yet. Several of us keep radios in search mode .. just waiting !
Did hear repeated "test test" on TG 36208 yesterday .. no radio traffic to identify the area of testing however.

No date on cutover for Stow .. I'd guess spring '08 at earliest.
And with the whole regional dispotach center in chaos .. could be 2009, 2010, 2011 ...
