What exactly is the D zone I know a lot of the fbi channels are labeled with it and the fed files call it infamous but what exactly is it?

Radios in the simple days where 1-16 channels End of Story
At sometime Radios began to become smarter and had Zones to allow more than one BANK or ZONE of up-to 16 channels.

Some Radio Shops labeled these as Zons 1-xx, others began with A-Z then 1A, 1B, 2A - all varies by who/what/when/where/why

for those who monitor the FBI , Zone D was discovered to be the Nationwide channel assignments, so when you went out of your RA to another RA you atleast had a common set of frequencies to select from (Doesn't mean anyone was actually monitoring)

And yes it still exists however D was Prior to Narrowbanding and the new Zone is known as D(NB) aka D Narrowband

I find it hard to believe that they have one channel 155.475 (probably CSQ) "National Law Enforcement" when they should have one or more zones that should include VLAW31 155.475 PL 156.7 and all the other national and federal interoperability channels.

Those would be under different zones, due to the multitudes of Interops.
Many [RA's] will have the local regional interops, in addition to those in the NIFOG and each would be it's own zone, in addition to the multiple zones needed for the DOJ 25 Cities (now well over 25) - a standard/basic Federal Radio (One Band) has over 20 Zones

Never use NAC/PL/DCS decode unless you actually need it.
Use NAC/PL/DCS search if your scanner supports it.
You never know what you could be missing if you limit what you can receive.
Ok I did that but now on one of my USMS channels I’m getting a NOAA broadcast from skip how do I stop this?

So how can I prevent it?
Best quick answer (which may not work)...by getting a better receiver or using less gain (particularly if you are using a pre-amp). (If intermod is the result of mixing outside your radio, which rarely but can happen, nothing will help on your end.) You could also try notching the offending signal but that is not going to be satisfactory most of the time (unless the intermod involves as one of the frequencies a station far enough away in frequency from who you do care about and you can notch that). Better answer is for you to answer too questions: How do you know it is skip? Did you listen enough to identify the station and its true frequency? If so that is extremely important information to post for a more helpful answer.
