Visiting Dare County and find Duck PD on 460.475, rather than 460.25 as listed in RR Dare County Data Base. They are using unit identifiers in the 700 series; 701, 702, etc. Can anyone enlighten on the unit identifiers for all beach law enforcement agencies? REL

I do not about the Unit Identifiers but I have 460.475 as Dare CO. 3. Which is used by the smaller agencies. Also Hatteras PD can be found using 460.350 which is Dare Co. 2.
Have you had a chance to hear any VIPER Activity down that way. Dare County I thought had switched over but I only get a chance to visit once a year.

Thanks Greg. Have not loaded VIPER into my 396T, but will give it a try and will advise. The UHF channels are active here and in Currituck. Fire still in VHF. REL

Was there in early March, only thing on Viper was a limited amount of NCSHP traffic & Hyde County traffic. Will be going back the week after Easter weekend and will see if anything has changed....

Dare County Commissioners just approved the joint Dare / Viper system in the beginning of February. Coments I have read by one official mentioned that the combined system "might" be ready by the end of 2009.

With regards to the fire service, officials are encouraging departments to consider purchasing similar radios, to save money by buying in bulk. The Motorola 2500 series radios appear to be the likely candidate. Gately Communications, a local Motorola dealer, has been conducting product presentations for the fire departments.

It appears that the VHF fire system, with UHF remotes, may remain in use for several years ... or until all departments can budget and acquire 800 radios for all their apparatus. Dispatching will continue on VHF.

To add to Jeff's post with an observation, the transition process in Dare should take place fairly rapidly once it starts since the info is that the VIPER sites and the Dare 800 sites will be the same, and the major physical components of the infrastructure are essentially already in place. Of course, that's just a conclusion based on assumptions, and we all know about assumptions, and we all know that Murphy and politics are alive and well. :D

This will surely be quite a burden on some of these smaller departments in the south end. Is Dare County sharing any of the costs associated with the purchase of subscriber equipment?

We'll be down in May, I'll dial in the 800mhz frequencies and see what I can hear. Will Dare County be using VIPER frequencies, or will there be separate frequencies for each?
