Going on vacation in Cape Hatteras, is dare county able to be picked up on VHF or is it a P25 and if so is it monitorable with a scanner.

They’re on P25, all Law Enforcement is Encrypted. But you can hear Highway Patrol on VIPER, Marine Fisheries, Wildlife and Fisheries and surrounding counties on VIPER

Hello all, going to be in the Rodanthe area and programming my G5 before I come down. I have the p25 system. Anything else worth programming in?

Nc Viper , I live in that area during the summer. Viper has considerable activity and then there’s the lifeguards on 155.775 . Lots of coast guard on vhf and campgrounds and other businesses on uhf.
I also monitor the dare bombing range on military uhf as well. With a good antenna there’s tons of stuff to listen to.

While I was down there I caught some unlisted talkgroups. They were encrypted so not sure but thinking law.
14728- 16 hits in 5 hours
14748- 33 hits in 5 hours
14773- 84 hits in 5 hours

I caught 14773 quite a bit as well, it falls after Kill Devil Hills Fire Tac 5, but I couldn’t get any RID’S on it.
14551 is the old Sheriff Dispatch before they went encrypted, last year I could hear some sporadic traffic on it, as if it were a patch or maybe like an BOLO TG. 14567 is the old Beach Law Dispatch,
