Caught an exercise this afternoon with these callsigns and it sparked my curiosity.
Did some research and found:
965th AACS of the 552nd ACW - SHUCK ## DARKSTAR - Tinker AFB, Oklahoma;
966th AACS of the 552nd ACW - SHUCK ## DRAGNET - Tinker AFB, Oklahoma;
info from: Scanner Glossary
Also found this amazing website: Scanning the 301st Air Force Reserves Squadron
After reading the second paragraph, I think the exercise I heard was targeting - which was quite exciting.
Scroll a little down on the page and there are links to .wav files - the "knock if off" and AWACS are exactly what I was hearing - the picture part.
Can't quite describe everything in its glory, but some terms I wrote down that I kept hearing were - "bandit(s), hostile(s), leading edge, and bulls eye"
Heard everything on 319.025 AM, which, according the CARMA guide is WI ANG ch. 12 - air tac
Location today: capital of WI
Sounds like they are going at it again tomorrow afternoon and looking at the SUA website, I think that confirms it.
Any insight on this type of exercise or corrections are welcome; along with addition freqs. to tune into. Thanks
