TETRA now starting to make a significant impact in Australian Communications
I have finally found confirmation of what I long suspected after seeing numerous 25k0D7W emission designators appearing in the ACMA database in the last year or so. In addition to the TETRA list below Motorola has rolled an extensive 800Mhz TETRA network around the major population centres in Victoria (Melbourne, Geelong), New South Wales (Sydney, Wollongong, NSW Central Coast, Newcastle) and Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast).
The 800Mhz analogue trunking networks are still up and running but are probably running on their last year or two before they are decommissioned. 800Mhz LTR already disappeared a year or two back.
I am not sure how the transition will be done but I am aware that there are some alternatives to the 800Mhz TETRA network in Sydney (VHF and UHF analogue MPT1327 trunking + 490Mhz LTR) - no doubt some customers will move away from the TETRA pathway, given the world's financial climate.

October 2008 - Tasmanian Electro Metallurgical Company
====================================
Temco is a BHP Billton company located 50km north of Launceston at Bell Bay
"As current radio systems reach their end of life, TEMCO will migrate and replace their current analogue systems with a digital TETRA system from Damm Cellular Systems using TetraFlex® infrastructure and Sepura radio terminal units.
TEMCO will take advantage of the new features offered by TETRA technology whilst being able to maintain communications to external agencies.
TETRA will allow radio users to maintain existing group call dispatch functionality whilst introducing new features such as excellent noise cancelling, data services, private radio to radio calls and full duplex private telephony calls. These features and functionality are packaged into the small outdoor rated modules of TetraFlex® and matched with the light weight but ruggedized Sepura handsets.
September 2008 - Grand Hyatt Hotel, Melbourne Victoria
=====================================
Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne selects TETRA technology.
A second Hotel from the Hyatt Hotel group have chosen a TETRA digital radio system from Damm Cellular Systems and Sepura terminals. Damm's TetraFlex® infrastructure is matched with Sepura terminal units and integrated into a new Zonith Tetra Alarm Control System (TACS) and their Alcatel PCX4400 PABX.
TETRA provides all the required features of group call dispatch services, security, private radio to radio calls, telephony integration and alarm text messaging. The Zonith TACS integrates to the Hotel Building Management System (BMS) and Hotel jobs dispatch enabling for automatic deployment and escalation of alarm and job messages. The different messages are sent as formatted text to pre-determined staff member radio terminals. The staff members selected to receive these messages can "accept" or "reject" message allocations. Rejected or unanswered messages will be automatically escalated to other staff members according to predetermined business rules ensuring no alarm or job will go unanswered and the correct staff can perform the necessary actions in a timely, efficiency automated manor.
July 2008 - Palazzo Versace Hotel - Gold Coast, Queensland
=======================================
Palazzo Versace on the Gold Coast deploys TETRA technology.
The World first Versace Hotel chooses the latest in digital radio systems from Damm Cellular Systems. Damm's TetraFlex® infrastructure is matched with Sepura terminal units and integrated into their Commtech Messenger Dispatch/Alarm system and their Alcatel PCX4400 PABX.
TetraFlex® provides all the required features of group call dispatch services, security, private radio to radio calls, telephony integration and alarm text messaging. These features are all packaged into a small efficient TetraFlex® hardware platform and light weight but ruggedized Sepura handsets.
June 2008 - John Hunter Hospital - Newcastle, New South Wales
=========================================
John Hunter Hospital located in Newcastle selects TETRA technology as the upgrade path to their future radio communications needs.
John Hunter Hospital (JHH) a part of the Hunter New England Health Area Service selects a TETRA digital radio system from Damm Cellular Systems and Sepura radio terminals to upgrade current radio systems.
TETRA technology was selected as the best fit for their needs.
TETRA provides the mandatory features of group call dispatch and voice security but also provides new features of easy channel expansion, private radio to radio calls, full duplex telephony integration and text messaging. All this is delivered in a compact TetraFlex® system and small light weight Sepura handsets.
June 2008 - Australian Submarine Corporation - Adelaide South Australia
==============================================
Australian Submarine Corporation is to roll out TETRA.
Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) site in Adelaide South Australia will install a digital TETRA system from Damm Cellular Systems using TetraFlex® infrastructure and Sepura terminal units.
ASC are to make good use of the features and flexibility provided by TETRA technology.
As TETRA is a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology and inherently a trunked technology, ASC are able to maximise hardware and spectrum efficiency and provide easy expansion flexibility when adding more terminals, talkgroups and site locations. With TETRA you can maintain standard PTT group call dispatch services whilst introducing new security enhancement features such as private radio to radio calls, full duplex private telephony calls, End to End encryption, Emergency override, GPS location, Lone worker/Man down, Alarm text messaging and Control capabilities. These features are all packaged into single light weight but ruggedized handsets. All these requirements can only be accomplished with TETRA.
March 2008 - Nordic refrigeration & Electrical Services - Whyalla South Australia
===================================================
Private operator Nordic Refriguration and Electrical Services is to deploy there own TETRA system.
A private service provider in Whyalla, one of the largest regional centres on the western shores of the Spencer Gulf in South Australia, will install a digital TETRA system from Damm Cellular Systems using TetraFlex® infrastructure and Sepura radio terminals.
Nordic are keen to take advantage of the standard features found within TETRA systems and terminals including high quality voice group call communications, full duplex telephony, private conversations, text messaging and GPS location services.
February 2008 - Darwin Convention Centre, Northern Territory
=========================================
