It's probably still a little ways off since N.E. Ohio falls in the Canadian border region. While the band plans have been put out for public comment, they have not been formally adopted by the FCC yet... Once the Canadian band plans are adopted, Sprint Nextel will have to negotiate with the affected parties and figure out where to put everyone... At that point things may start to move. Don't look for anything as far as frequency changes until early next year. The FCC should be issuing their Report & Order for the Canadian border region sometime before the end of April.

Once that's done everyone has to get their paperwork submitted before they can begin the negotiation process. It's probably going to be September before anyone can even start issuing new radios under the Subscriber Early Deployment process (which is where the replacement radios arrive and get set up before system infrastructure gets changed).

Ok, the reason I'm asking is because I've been keeping an eye on the new liscense for Canton/Stark County. I was reading somewhere and it mentioned rebanding and wondered if this was what they were talking about.

Lake & Geauga County both have frequencies in the 'lower 120' (851.0125-853.9875). These frequencies will be relocated to make room for NPSPAC systems (866.0125-868.9875) which will occupy the lower 120 after rebanding.

Both Lake & Geauga County have control channels that will change as a result of rebanding so all radios and system controllers on both systems must be reprogrammed.

As the Geauga County system administrator I can assure you that we are working with our vendors and the beginning steps of rebanding have already begun. We will be reprogramming all of the radios in Geauga County.

The good news for scanner listeners is that Motorola has stated that the current Motorola radio subscribers in Lake or Geauga will not require replacement or firmware updates to support rebanding, so your trunktrackers should work after rebanding by simply changing to the new control channel frequencies.

Lake County is in the planning stages of migrating to the Motorola 7.x platform, so you may need a scanner capable of 9600 bps trunking in the near future for Lake County. Lake County may try to combine rebanding and a system upgrade into one process.
