Anyone here going to the Dayton Hamvention that will report back what you find. Especially at the Uniden booth on the new unheard of item!

Since I live only 20 miles south it would be a crime if I didn't go.
I will be manning the AOSC Booth (on the ramp in the usual spot) most of
the time. We will be keeping an eye on things. The Scannermaster and the
Bearcat Radio Club Booths are close by.

To anyone attending, stop by and we'll talk scanning!!

I live way down here in S. Arkansas and can't go that far!!! Do you think that you could drop a line on here to let us know what Uniden is releasing?

I do not think that Uniden will have a booth, but Upman (Paul) will be there circulating around differant booths. Usually when Uniden announces a new product they will make a press release. Hopefully for all of us non attendees we will get to at least hear what the new product will be even though we dont get to see it.

Like I said, the Bearcat Radio Club with "Mr. Scanner" Norm Schrein will be close by.
If anything is introduced that weekend, Norm will know about it and
he will let us know.

BTW - Hamvention usually presents Radio Shack an opportunity for
an on-site sale on scanners, perhaps even the Pro-96 8) 8) 8)

I'll be there also to "...ensure your Hamvention experience is the best it can be." Which translates into feel safe and spend lots of money! <LOL>
Seriously, the PD will once again assist on site security and provide a visible presence (less M16 armed officers at the entry points) and once again try to keep things as orderly as possible. Let us all pray for good weather!

I'm finally making the trip from Cape Cod, after thinking about it for 15 years or so. Road trip! Staying overnight in Central PA Thursday night and will hopefully get there at a respectable enough hour on Friday. Will have all day Saturday at least.

Greatly looking forward to it!

Hope we don't have any rain this year! If my memory serves me correct, last year it rained the whole weekend and just as the hamvention close down the sun came out. (Knock on wood!)

Hello,

I go every 2 or 3 years. I am not going this year.

Around a 15 to 16 hour drive for you. I think the best route is I-80 although Central PA is mostly woods with only a truck stop or two. It will seem like a long time to get through PA and it will take awhile. I took I-84 into Scranton and then I-81 down to I-80. I think I stayed in Brookville, PA.

Last time I took the PA Turnpike and I-70 and it seemed slightly slower when you get off the PA Turnpike and head into West Virginia. I did pickup some trunked systems around Pittsburgh and Wheeling.

Make sure you bring your P25 scanners so you can pick up a few of the many MARCS sites. Ohio has a lot of counties and each one seems to have at least one site.

Dayton Hamvention is really in Trotwood. The fleamarket takes up most of the Hara Arena parking so you have to park at some nearby improvised parking lots or down at the Salem Mall and take the Shuttle Bus. I usually take the Salem Mall/Shuttle Bus option. I have even walked the 35 minutes between Salem Mall and Hara Arena. Traffic can be heavy around Hara near start and finish times.

I find it is best to do the inside first on Friday and the Fleamarket on Saturday/Sunday. Inside crowds are greater on Saturday/Sunday. Rain can modify this as it gets really crowded inside when it rains. It can take two days to really go through the fleamarket as it has thousands of spaces. There are all kinds of electronic and computer stuff for sale.

Besides MARCS there are a number of government, public safety, and commercial trunked radio systems in the Dayton area. The VHF/UHF ham bands and FRS/GMRS band are very active at the Hamvention site.

I hope you already have reservations for a hotel in the dayton area.

Here is zipped Pro-96/2096 file for the I-70 corridor for the entire width of Ohio.
It includes MARCS sites within range of I-70 and the Montgomery County
and Dayton systems.

Here is the memory map:

  • Bank 1 Ohio/MARCS
    Bank 2 Preble/Montgomery Counties
    Bank 3 Dayton TRS
    Bank 4 Clark/Madison Counties/Columbus FD
    Bank 5 Columbus Police
    Bank 6 Licking County
    Bank 7 Muskingum County
    Bank 8 Guernsey County
    Bank 9 Belmont County
    Bank 0 User Defined

Enjoy,
Mark

Absolutely, reservations were made some time ago...but I think we got the last room! Dubbin's prices are steep, but what are you going to do? I hope he has a decent continental breakfast...

Eric: Thanks for the info. I've made the same road trip many times, actually, as my wife has relatives in St. Louis. I'm taking the exact same route, and I will be using the PRO-2096 along the way. I'm about to get started building some V-folders for the ride. We always go 95 to 287 over the Tappan Zee Bridge, then down 287 to 78 into Harrisburg. We're staying just west of Harrisburg where you have to jump off to get onto the PA Turnpike. Looked like a good "halfway" point. Looking forward to the event and the scanning to/from.
