Why does the pro 106 NOT come with a power adapter?

where do you get the proper power adapter so you can use the rechargeable batteries?

and use it with out batteries?

You'll need a 9 volt 800ma charger and a "C" tip from Radio Shack.

There are a lot of NI-MH batteries out there. I have had good performance from Energizer 2650 maH rechargeable batteries I bought from a local hardware store. However, I'm currently switching over to 2000maH Sanyo Enloops that are very good at holding their level longer when not in use.

For charging these NI-MH's, I use a MAHA AA charger. Excellent - hands down, each of the eight battery slots is a seperate charger.

I picked up a 9v adapter with a "B"tip from radio shack so I don't run down the batteries when I am sitting in one place for a long time. I also picked up a maha battery charger and battries from https://wiredqube.com/ and picked up the Powerex MH-C9000 charger and the PowerEx 2700mAh NiMH AA Batteries 4-pack w/carrying case. They seemed to have the best price and the 2700mAh batteries last a long time.

Accessories make Radio Shack quite a bit of money. Your best bet is to get a separate charger, don't charge the batteries inside the scanner.
Just wondering, is it a strict rule not to charge inside the scanner ? There have been a few posts here and there about this subject. I don't have an adapter for my 106 yet, so external charging is the only option I have. For my other radios, I charge internally and never any problems.

Its not really a strict rule, just staying on the safe side. Some have done it and had problems with the heat causing the batteries to leak into the radio. There have been several post's about it in the past. I really dont think it would hurt just for a short time, but your best bet and the safest way is to charge them externally. Hope this helps.....
