Is it possible to do some editing on the talkgroup list on this system...

Washington, DC (Project 16) Trunking System, Washington, District of Columbia - Scanner Frequencies

Except for citywide, all the cops are encrypted. The interop and 1 service talkgroup (housing authority) are not. If the 2 were seperated, the various apps can set the encrypted group to ignore and not waste time downloading stuff they can never hear. It's easy enough to add the one clear talkgroup out of that mess...

Thanks..Mike

Naturally you made a database submission to that system requesting these changes, correct? That is the proper procedure, although I'm pretty sure you already know that. ;)

Not when I'm asking whether it can be done - if not, I won't submit the request. No sense in wasting the effort...

Mike,

I'm not sure what you want changed. The talkgroups that are encrypted are marked as such. The talkgroups that are clear are marked correctly as well. Don't the scanner programming packages simply ignore the encrypted talkgroups, and only import the clear ones?

Sorry if I'm missing something...

I know you can tell FreeScan to ignore encrypted TGs - honestly, Dave, I don't know about the other packages. That's why I made the suggestion - if they can't, then they can almost certainly ignore a group (that's clearly marked for encrypted stuff) instead of individual TGs within that group

I recently made a similar submission for the new DC Phase 2 system as the TGs were marked "T" vs. "E".... (which they are both) -- and for the same reason - to allow certain software, etc. to "do the right thing" and ignore or lock them out since they're worthless to us anyway (almost*).

I'm still recommending that a new type should be created which represents both TDMA and ENCRYPTED....

The suggestion for a new type for TDMA and encrypted (or a way of separating encrypted/clear and FDMA/TDMA) has been made - now we just have to wait.
