Hi all. I thought I would find this in search but I could not.
I just bought a used bc72xlt for close call on the cheap.

Since it has a few days to arrive, can anyone tell me what the barrel jack size is?
I know that the ad0008 is the Model number of the offical charger from uniden. I see it also fits bc92xlt and bc246t. However does anyone know what the barrel size is or what it is shared with?
I have a handful of 6 volt supplies and would like to re use what's on hand.

page 58 of the owners manual says "4.4 mm DC power jack".

check to make sure they are regulated power supplies.

I checked that and the only corresponding 4.4mm is the inside diameter of a laptop plug and 6.5mm outer diameter.

4.4 mm is the outer diameter barrel connector / and probably a 1.6 or 1.65 mm central pin diameter.

They are very common. They are found on hundreds of thousands of items that run on low voltage DC. Without knowing the exact laptop plug/power supply you are referencing, that means nothing.

if you find something that physically fits snug, and you match the polarity, you can wire it up and it will work. They are not high tolerance parts as they are implemented.

Once it arrives, I'll check my stock. I'm surprised the wiki articles don't have the ID and OD Sizes given the popularity of the radios its compatible with.

Update. I did see that the bc246t radio reference wiki article links to an Amazon listing for a Sony CD power supply. Amazon has it unavailable so I didn't look further.
Sony DCC-E345

I did see on the Amazon item it shows the below specs for the plug is 4.0mm. I'll have a 4.0x1.6 ready when it gets here. The radio Shack adaptaplug reference show that size is plug 'B'.

I didn't plan to charge batteries in the unit.

I would like to try a USB to barrel to save a 12V outlet in the car. If 3 volts from batteries is enough, USB 5v should be OK.

2 AA Alkaline Batteries (3V DC)
or 2 AA Rechargeable Ni-MH Batteries (2.4V DC)
AC Adapter 6 VDC 500mA
grabbed from a manual.

try it, the worst it might say is "illegal voltage"

the barrel size DC 4.0x1.7 mm in those USB cables I linked to earlier are correct. It looks like the book is misleading with 4.4mm.
As a side note, the ebay seller mislabled the item and I recieved a BC92xlt instead of the BC72xlt. So I have double the channels and 800MHz.

sounds like the pro 97 i bought, it was a pro 164.
for $25 it did not matter.
i wondered why a 97 had the 700 band.
then i read the back.
