Since the upcoming Uniden 996 allows the user to deem a frequency on a particular channel to be monitorable only if digital, only if analog or both.....I couldn't help but wonder if the use of the I-CALL & the I-TACs in failsafe operations of the DE trunked system will always be associated w/ the 156.7 PL (this seems to be the case) and if they will be in analog or digital format. Also, if DE LE units select the I-CALL or I-TACs for direct (non-failsafe-associated) comms w/ other agencies (Queen Annes Co MD units, for example), would the format be analog or digital?

ITAC and ICALL conventional mutual aid frequencies in the 800 MHz band will always be in the clear in analog mode. I haven't come across a public safety agency that isn't encoding a 156.7 PL on these channels - decode may be another story, but they should be.
