So i have upgraded most of my CB radio to the Uniden Uniden CMX760. Its a good little unit, but really needs a external speaker to hear it well. I like the scan feature on it for traveling. I put one in my work and personal vehicles and in our JK. I run the Larsen NMO27 on all of them and so far nothing but good. I still have my old Cobra 29 in the motor home. I had the Cobra 75 and hated it.
Also if you need a longer cable for the head I used a Shielded CAT6E with a straight thru coupler. Works perfect.
I'll second this.
It's rare that I need a CB, but was doing a long road trip and decided to add one to my truck a few years ago. I bought the Uniden CMX560 and was pretty happy with it.
As KB2ZTX said, it -really- needs the external speaker unless you have a very quiet car and keep all your windows rolled up. I used an existing Motorola speaker I already had installed in my truck, and it worked well.
I also did the CAT 5 cable extension. That let me put the radio behind the rear seat with the VHF deck, utilized the #6 power feed I had to the battery, and use the existing coaxial cable I had to the roof.
Worked out well.
Only thing I found, and this really isn't a big deal, is that the radio out of the box only did 2.5 watts. Not an issue for me as most of what I did was listen and we all know that a good antenna makes a bigger difference than additional power does.
Scan function was nice. It's limited in the squelch settings, but that wasn't an issue. Display is nice. After a few days of using it, I learned where the buttons were and could change settings without looking.
I don't currently have it mounted in my truck, but I may consider putting it back in.
