• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

After doing some extensive cleaning, and checking out the harness,I have found that I have an "Open" short on the bottom harness on the center conductor. The RF is going straight up the support pipe bypassing the bottom 2 dipoles, and only working on the 2 top dipoles.
Can I just order the "bottom"wiring/coax harness for this antenna,or will I have to order the whole antenna harness as one?
I realize this is a mixture of 35ohm/75ohm coax at 1/4wave multiples. The top half of the antenna is good.Put it up on a 10ft pole, and,it works great. If I could find some 35ohm coax with a velocity factor the same as the DB Products,I could make this harness myself,I have a way of making those weather-protected couplings.just wondering if they sell the "bottom"half.I will make this antenna work one way,or another.

Here's a diagram for the Decibel Products DB224 Harness Assembly from the repeater-builder website.

There's a lot of useful information on the diagrams.

I recall some discussion as to whether Commscope (formerly Decibel Products) will sell a replacement harness. Some have been told no, and others have said yes.......so it probably depends on who you talk with.

If you decide to make your own harness, you will need to find a cable matching both the impedance and velocity factor in order for you to use cable lengths specified in the drawing.

The VB83 cable has a 35 ohm impedance, and the VB11 cable has an impedance of 75 ohms. Both have a 65.9% velocity factor.

After doing more continuity testing,I found a bad solder joint inside the triangular plastic 'weatherboot'.I took a Stanley knife, whittled away, until I got down to the solder(Not Fun),and, there it was.The center conductor of the VB-83 had separated from the main feed coax.It seems years, and, years of the harness 'swaying' on the support pipe caused the center coax conductor to break free, from the main feedline.(I may add, that when I accquired this antenna,it was NOT taped very well on the bottom half) So,I will go ahead and strip the other weather boot down also, and, repair it too.
