OK folks, time to test those PSR-500/600 scanners to see if they really work with ESK.

The first phase of Denver PS ESK testing is:
Wednesday, June 4 at 0730, 1000, 1300, 1730, 2230 hours
Friday, June 6 at 0730, 1000, 1300, 1730, 2230 hours
Tuesday, June 10 at 0730, 1000, 1300, 1730, 2230 hours

At the above times ESK will be active for a period of 3 minutes.

It would be nice to know if the latest analog trunking scanners made by GRE PSR-300, PSR-400, PRO-163 & PRO-164 adapt to ESK during this test.

EEB just made a all call announcement they will be testing the radios at 07:30 and to monitor your portables. If your radio goes into CC Scan bring your radio in to be fixed.

The EB, will be performing the ESK security feature testing today. Please monitor your radio for three minuets; starting at 7:30, Contact the line shop if your radio displays CC Scan for it needs to be reprogrammed.

That's way cool Erik..... Anyone want to buy a 386? Dropped the CC on mine just as suspected. I was hoping by some chance it would not. It did work the old manual way though by trying to chase down each freq.

What are we looking for on the PSR500/600 when they start testing the ESK feature?? I was listening this AM at 7:30(with the 500) and everything sounded the same. Some where saying the they had to bring there radio's in because is was still on CC Scan. About 15 minutes to the next test.

Your not looking for anything on your radio, it will just work as normal. A normal scanner will go silent =(

And the test @ 10:00 worked great on the GRE. Looks like some of the EDACS radios didn't get the ESK upgrade, thus their radios said CC scan(Control Channel).

Ok, thanks Erik. The 7:30 test i just had the PSR 500 on and no other radio, this time i had the PRO 96 and the 500 on so i was hearing talk on the 500 and not on the Pro 96..So the PSR 500 works...

For 1730hrs test: "If your radios go to "CC-Scan" during the test turn them on and off during the 3 min test if that still displays then please contact the radio shop."

CC-Scan is Control Channel Scan... the radio is scanning through the frequencies programmed for that particular site, looking for the active control channel. In a sense, the same as out of range.

Here's a sort of workaround for those who don't have a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy PSR-500/600's when they throw the switch "permanently".

Uniden models 250, 296, 396, 785, 796, 996 can conventionally scan the system frequencies when ESK is active by changing the system setting to EDACS SCAT (SCT in some models) and make sure all the channels in that bank (or system) have delay turned off. This mode acts similarly to the old "G-WHIZ" (which was an add on board to resume scan on disconnect tones) method of scanning EDACS systems prior to the first EDACS trunking scanner the BC245XLT.

While you will not be able to track talkgroups you will still be able to hear analog activity on the system.
