So, your 6800 does give a NAC readout so for a RRDB submission that would be "141 NAC". I don't know if it is a coincidence but I see Brookhaven National Lab is 141 NAC on their VHF FIre/EMS. The NAC is often a clue to the Fed agency user.

If you become a subscriber here on radio reference, one of the things it allows you to do is search for freqs in the database.

So for a subscriber, searching 171.975 in New York pulls up,



You can see freqs without being a subscriber but the search is much faster.

And with you being in Yaphank, it also possible you will pick up stuff from CT RI and maybe even MA. The search allows you to select a single state, multiple states or the all states (entire database). So you can search 171.975 in NY, CT, MA and RI and it would look like this,

1200 looks to be the Radio ID of the user you heard
1 maybe a default for the User being called or if a Talkgroup the TG info
GRP id's if a PVT or Group call [Groups have Talkgroups] not sure if the 8600 displays those.

So as others have pointed out you have
171.9750 NAC 141 which is the Dept of Energy, Brookhaven Lab

NAC:141 = the P25 NAC [See the Wiki, but NAC is like PL/DPL we see in analog]

Back in 2017 when I last logged them, I had them on tg 1 (default) and rid's 300XXXX

Been getting hits on these 2 freqs here on eastern Long Island The first, 171.9750 nac141 hearing things about panels, lieutenant, water, bldg 370 and Knox box. On 171.8125 nac 173 I hear things like south of bldg 479, no harnesses will be worn, 2c confined space, manhole 77 and badge number...
