Can someone please direct me in programming my Uniden BCD396T Scanner so that I may monitor the Detroit Police Department. I work for Dearborn and use the scanner at work. I have the latest firmware update, but I dont fully understand all of the settings on the scanner. A beginning to end explanation would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

I know this doesn't answer your question but.......

I work in Dearborn and even with an external antenna I cannot monitor Detroit's traffic very well wihtout losing bits and pieces of it with my Pro-96.

I am not sure that Uniden has released a firmware update that allows it to better receive the type of system that Detroit uses. So far, to my knowledge, Radio Shack scanners (Pro-96, Pro-2096) are the only two that can receive Detroit's system in a way that is monitorable and most of the time you have to be located within the city limits for best reception.

Maybe someone can chime in and explain how it works for you.

Create a P25 System, enter the frequencies and see if you can monitor the system. If you can then enter in the talkgroups you are interested in listening to.

Click Menu Button
Select Program System
Select New System
Select MOT
Select P25
Select Set Frequencies
Select New Frequency
input frequency
press menu
Select New Frequency
input frequency
press menu

Continue until are done entering the frequencies
Now press scan then while scanning the detroit P25 system press scan again so
ID Search
appears on the screen
You can press hold while scanning the Detroit system to see if you are receiving the control channel.

More information

I have it programmed and have been using it for about a year now, but was never sure if I had it right. It seemed that I was only receiveing about 75% of the transmissions. I use it while in the scout car and patrol only the east end (everything east of Southfield) of Dearborn, so I'm right in the middle of Detroit's system. I just updated the firmware and turned off the AGC, this seemed to have a huge improvement. I'm now recieving about 90% of everything. I only have the control channels programmed, not all of them. If any of this helps?? I'm trying to get the most out of it because the guy's I work with and myself work closley with Detroit so we rely on it. When they changed over (to APCO 25) it really screwed us up.

Thanks again.
