Dead zones

so now we have a fix on all towers what is the average range of each tower. Using my 396t I'm getting usable signal about 1.5 miles radius from each tower leaving serveral, notable, areas with no reception.

1. where Davision freeway ends on the west side Woodrow Wilson
2. I-96 west of Southfield
3. Livernois from Lodge to 8 mile

To be continued...

Any more dead zones out there that you have noticed?

Let's not forget the 9999 Iris location. On the nortwest side, Plymouth Road and Meyers area. A new tower (a very nice structure) was erected next to the original tower about 4-5 years ago with all of the hardware mounted for the new system. It was very active during the introduction/testing phase of the system.
This location has been used by the city for over 50 years and the original tower was at least that old. Approximate Lat/ Long 42.3695 -83.17005
This location does not seem to appear in the tower list but I would think it has to be active in the current system. If, not it's a monument to how to spend a bunch of money in the development of a radio system. Possibly the tower, or more likely, any copper wire, could have been systematically dismantled and moved via shopping carts to the local scrapyard, resulting in a propagation hole.

I was recently driving to a wings game downtown, and i noticed bad reception where the 96 meets 94. May be a dead spot. And about scanning outside of the city, is there any way to hear it better? Reception is HORRIBLE from farmington! I have an RS 800MHZ antenna, and the 1.4 DSP version. All seem to help, but still imposible to hear a full conversation. And is this true with PD outside of the city also?(Do they get bad reception outside of city limits) If so they should make the towers reach farther out such as any other MPSCS tower.

Kind of off topic but I work in Dearborn and inside our building I have a really hard time receiving the Detroit system. I am at Southfield and Mercury Dr. My buddy is a detroit cop and he put his prep next to my scanner and we monitored the same talkgroups and his radio was chattering away while my scanner was getting nothing at all or garbled crap.

The actual Moto radios are so much better as we all know. Just reninforces the fact that even though our scanners have a hard time with the system, its working great for the officers and their preps as has been stated before on here.

Go to detroitfirefighters.net and they have a live broadcast there.
