Diamond D-130 Assembly Question

Has anyone assembled this antenna without using the top element?
I want to install this antenna under my Diamond X-200A on the same mast with a short stand off mount.
I do not have any need for the lower frequency coverage with the Discone because my reciever only goes down to 60 MHZ.
I only want to monitor between 118-450 MHZ so I here that this antenna is wat I need.

Yeah,
I have used without the top whip. it still does a fine job...but you loose alot of your Low band stuff.(30-50mhz) Some people even say the top whip messes up the Uhf band some how.
