I'm thinking about trying out the Diamond RH-C77A antenna.. I hear it is real good with all-around reception. For the people that have used it on a Pro-97, are you happy with it? Also - who sells them?? Google came up with absolutely nothing.

Yes, yes, and of course. :)

I could be long-winded here like I usually am so I'll make it simple: Order one, right now, you won't regret it. I have one, this is my 7th over the years (when I sell scanners I typically sell them as package deals so it all goes at one time and I start over later). It's highly recommended by many people here at RR - pretty much every person that buys one will recommend it from that point on.

You could do worse, I assure you. For general monitoring, the stock duckie, the RS 800 MHz duckie, the telescopic whip, and an RH-C77A basically are all most anyone would ever need in terms of handheld antennas to monitor practically anything out there. The RH-C77A is a bit weak in the 800 MHz band so, that's why the RS 800 MHz duckie is also recommended as a backup if you need something more specifically tuned to 800. But overall, the RH-C77A is damned tough to beat.

You can get one from AES for about $25 or so, that seems to be the going price nowadays. Some places charge a lot more, but $25 is basically the one to snag. Other distributors are out there, but since I have an AES location here in Vegas, I tend to deal with them locally and still recommend their website also.

Sounds good.. I will probably get it pretty soon.

The only 800mhz I am listening to is Waco, and so far I've had pretty good reception with them. If this Diamond does better than the stock antenna on 800mhz, it will probably be perfect for me.

I like the S/RH77CA I use it on both my HTs, it works well in receive and transmits very well on 2M and 70cm

You can see them on my 2 HTs in this

Neither does the salt and pepper grinder behind the phone, but the rabbit ears do. That's no rubber duckie either

On the Pro-97 is the Seeker 800MHz http://www.radiobooks.com/products/sek800.htm
On the Uniden is an antenna a bunch of use bought from eBay quite a while back, it was sold as an Ericsson elevated feed point 800MHz antenna. It is they are made by Antenex. They were selling for $8 if I remember correctly and sold out quite fast due to a posting on this site.
Scannermaster sells them http://www.scannermaster.com/800_MHz_2_5db_Gain_Antenex_Prof_Port_Antenna_p/14-540714.htm
You might be able to get it for less from Antenex or an Antenex dealer.

Well I got the Diamond antenna. I haven't noticed any difference yet, but I'll give it time. Should it add more range to what the scanner can pick up clearly?

It should between lets say 108 - 500 MHz you will find it works best up in the 400 MHz UHF band.

I'm not very worried about 800mhz trunked... I don't listen to it very much. I'm focused on 150mhz for the most part... just extended range.
