Fascinating. Sounds like they were jealous of the DV Dongle, and so decided to "one up" their idea.

I wonder (a) what it costs, and (b) what software comes with it? The web page is woefully short on specifics (as is commonly the case with DVSI).

It says it uses the AMBE-3000 chip, which SAYS its compatible with P25 IMBE... if so, that would be a very interesting device. It SAYS it's interoperable with D-Star, also, which is pretty darn interesting (and also, I may add, pretty darn sad that such a large company would summarily step on the idea of a little bitty company like the folks who invented the DV-Dongle).

Reportedly, the device costs something like $300?

The people at DVSI were kind enough to answer an email, even on the week before Christmas... which is very nice of them.

Definitive answers:

Regarding P25, the answer is very clear: NO, the USB-3000 *does not* support decoding of P25 Phase I audio, it support P25 half-rate only.

The units are $299 each plus shipping, quantity 1. They take credit cards for orders. The ship the second week of January 2011.

Can we clarify what this decodes besides P25? Does it decode ProVoice? Does it decode MotoTrbo, or DMR? How exactly does it work? Do you use it with DSD? Does it replace a discriminator tap to a scanner to decode such system voices? Does it have its own software similar to DSD to do such operation?

Hello,

I have the P25 version, which costs more. It replaces the mbe library. There is software, but it is for product evaluation, not for receiving signals. I have a version of dsd that can use the USB3000. It can decode D*, DMR, NXDN, Yaesu System Fusion so far.

NWDigitalRadio has a similar product that will not do P25 Phase 1.

I hope this version of DSD will be released, even more so if the support can be extended to the less costly NW Radio Thumb DV. :)
Thanks for all your hard work!

Hello,

A Thumb DV is on the way to me and should arrive by next week.

I am in the process of getting some of my experiments with dsd into my repository, including USB3000 support. Unfortunately I have been busy with other important personal stuff for the last two months.

I have some questions.

I was looking at one to decode EDACS ProVoice. Which I decided not to go with and just purchase a ProVoice capable Harris radio and have it programmed. Much cheaper for me and just as efficient if not better.

I've seen videos of people who used this particular Vocoder and it seems to work just fine in certain applications. It's nice that it's AMBE.
