Reception Band 25-1300MHz, :?

Well,here we go again!How can they justify 25Mhz without a vertical radiator?(even then,it is still questionable)I would ASSUME this to fall off at 100Mhz.

Plus the specs look like a spin-off of the popular R/S discone.(radial lengths)Ad says the elements are heavy duty S/S.

Yeah,it looks pretty good,if I was'nt into building them,I'd probably buy one.

If you get one,let us know how well it does for you.

Just one example.

Anything you buy on ebay can be a gamble. Or at least that's my opinion. You can find some great stuff there for a great price. And then you can find something that looks great but is junk once you see it for yourself.

"looks" similar to the one you could buy at RS for about the same price, but I could be wrong.

I see ebay has some good deals, but I would rather buy from a store where I can see what I'm buying, put my hands on it, and return it if I'm not satisfied or it breaks, also pictures can be decieving, and altered. Not saying that's the case here. It just boils down to the old saying "buyer beware!"

Actually, although it does look similar to the RS one, the RS one costs $70. Also, I don't see a vertical element on the eBay one, which leads me to think that any frequency much below 108MHz will be pretty much ignored.

As far as I'm concerned, the main area in need of improvement on the RS discone are the shoddy elements. The Ebay one appears similar but with better, stainless elements. For the price, I'd say give it a shot!

I should have pointed that out also (about the elements). Having one of the RS ones last less than 6 weeks before I had to replace it with a real antenna was a $70 tuition to the school of lessons learned. :(

Hi,Lou;
What happenend? wind,icing?
I have heard a lot of disappointment with the R/S discones.I know the elements are thin walled.I had a friend at the local R/S that put one of these up in '93 on top of the store,and it still is in great shape.
Just curious...Thanks

Just wind. And not very strong, just constant. The failure is not the thin-wall element, but the actual attaching screw to the base for the cone elements. The thin-wall steel is pressed over a ... well some kind of cheap metal screw which then screws into the base. The problem is the metal is too soft or brittle or something, in any case they torque off after being flexed by the wind. For the extra $20 the Diamond costs, the construction is ever so much better; it has survived the same wind and icing buildup and thus far has not failed in any way.
