I took the plug today and modified my BCT15 with a Discriminator tap. I had the guys in my electrical shop make up an external connector and run a wire through the existing hole in the back of the scanner. I used the RS 274-333, External 1/8" Mono Inline Audio Jack for my external connection and a shielded 2 wire for the main feed. They used black zip-ties on the front and back of the wire so it wouldn’t pull through the hole. The wire was almost too thick so pull-through is not a concern. They connected the ground using an insulated ring connector which is attached to a case screw. They did a quick solder to the DISC point so it can be easily removed if need with no damage or notice to the unit. The resister was connected to the main connection and covered in heat shrink. Now I feel better about how the mod turned and there was no damage to the unit in the process.

I'm checking out some of the programs now and they all seem to be working great. I figured I pass this on for those who didn't want to drill holes in there new scanners.

Thanks for the post Dan! Is the tap point clearly marked on the BCT15's circuit board, like it is on the BCD996T?

Black zip ties, you mean tie-straps? Sounds like they did a good job.

You are correct John, my mistake, and yes, the BCT15 is marked clearly like the 996. Sometimes I type to fast, I don't think of how I'm trying to say it. :)

Just to add, the reason I went with an external connector was, the back case wall was way too thick to drill and I didn't want to take the unit completely apart or risk getting metal shavings on the circuit board. There is a great case ground screw that holds the speaker wire in place on the inside.

Good idea about using a screw hole instead of drilling the case. I wondered how I'd do something similar to one of my radios.

Such a simple solution to the problem, yet I didn't think of it.
