I have unlimited access to C and Ku feeds and just about every receiver currently available. There is nothing available for free that would make me want to sit down and watch TV, everything good is encrypted and if its not, its ho-hum, boring.

I used to enjoy watching Shaun Kenny (Greensheet) and Doug Denhert (The Sky Store), watching the raw network feeds [esp during the Gulf War years]. Back when everyone had a raped VC. I was watching American XXXtacy as a pimply teen, rofl. Of course i was just a casual sat enthusiast. What a fun time. I often wondered what was left to see on C-band.

actually, dish or should i say echostar owns wildblue. Im a tech for dish, and i also install and repair wildblue, and going thru all the wildblue training... i can say for a fact that dish/echo owns wildblue. Theres also rumors flying around that good ole' charlie bought hughesnet too, and in the coming months, were gonna have to be retrained to fix/install hughes **** too.

Actually, Wildblue is a subsidiary of Viasat, which is part of the Linkabit...
I used the Wiki link for Linkabit because its interesting history (Qualcomm, Videocypher anyone?). As far as I can see, no relationship to Dish and as a matter of fact, it's listed as a competitor of Dish... At times, Dish has marketed a WildBlue package.. Same as Verizon marketed DirectTV packages...

I am surrounded by raw satellite feeds all day long so I know exactly what they look like and yes its better than what you get from the big satellite TV providers. However the raw provider feeds are also heavily compressed (mpeg4) and delivered to head ends as multiple channels per carrier in DVBS or S2 just like Dish and Directv.

The HD picture quality is incredibly good on Dish and Directv, especially for what it costs and if you are comparing HD from those providers to analog TV on rabbit ears, that tells me a lot about you and what to believe in your posts.

Reread my post. I said for the best video possible. Master feeds will make your pizza dish look like rabbitt ears geting a anolog signal. I still sub my 4DTV and anolog beats my digital cable by a bunch. If you have access to feeds I would like to see your comparison of a ABC mpeg4 feed from G16 compared to your Direct tv signal. I am looking at it uncrompressed in it's true form compared to stuffing it on one transponder with 20 other channels.

I was gonna say we had a 6 dish when I was a kid and they started to scramble/ encrypt this back then. i have now dish network I have yet to have a issue , well ok my 1 year old reprogrammed every thing in to some Yiddish or some thing lol. But other wise no issues. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I've had Dish Network for about 6 Yrs and I've never really had a problem with my service or customer service or really seen my prices go up with the exception of state or federal taxes or if I've order a PPV/Sport event My monthly charges are $106 + tax and I have HD and That Sat 129 Going down was the only problem I had Heck I can call if I had a problem and they would either help or send a tech out no problem!! Just because their satellite went down don't mean that they are a bad/terrible company.. Stuff Happens...

That was a long time ago. When I was in high school I worked for a satellite radio company and our audio was on the same channel as American XXX video but you could select the audio then, and we got a lot of complaints, I had a SCPC(?) device so I didn't have to watch the filth on the video side of things

That's completely opposite from around here. Cable is crap and goes out all the time and the same lineup cost more than satellite. Clouds, even fat grey ones should not take out the satellite services, only heavy rain will cause any picture breakup if the system is operating properly. It sounds like your dish may not have been aligned properly. Check out the customer satisfaction for cable around the country compared to DirecTV, its not a trivial difference.

Three different service guys came out to "try" and fix my dish. The last one suggested i ask the city to cut down trees a half block away to improve reception, i AM NOT making this stuff up. Thats what he said.

All i know is my dish signal went out with every rain, every snow, most of the winter with overcast days and blowing snow i had bad signal where the picture would freeze or go to blocks of color.

Gave up on it... Got a package deal on cable tv and internet, no customer satisfaction issues with cable here. Works great and always works. The only time it has been out in the years i have had it was after the Tornado July 1st which took all the lines down, power and cable, and wiped us out. Other than that there is an outage here and there during the day that lasts ten minutes or less while they do maintenance or upgrades, but its a planned outage to keep the system running its best so i can't complain. I got two free upgrades on my internet speed in the last few years as they upgraded the system, but my price didn't change at all, so i sure can't complain any!

You don't see too many dishes here in town, the cable is cheaper than satellite and far more reliable.
