Forgive me if this is a newbie question, but I searched and haven't seen the question asked.
When the ambulance in our town gets dispatched, they often receive a response code along the lines of 26-A-1. I think these are from CMED (but I might be wrong).
Can anybody point me to a list of these codes??
Thanx
These area Emergency Medical Dispatch codes (aka EMD) A lot of ambulance corps / C-MED dispatch centers use them as a standard between agencies but they area not necessary to be announced at dispatch. Since we should be using plain English for dispatch, the codes should not be utilized over the air. The intention for the codes is to help a dispatcher determine what the problem is by using a set of "cards" with specific questions and the codes are for pointing out what to dispatch it as. Also these are updated quite frequently, or they are supposed to be.
As listed above, the first number tells you what the problem is (ie fall, heart attacks, strokes), the let tells you if it is an ALS call, BLS Call and if a "hot" or "cold" response. Usually Omega and Alpha responses are cold, Bravo, Charlie and Delta are hot, ECHO means life threatening imminent (used for cardiac arrests, ect.). The last number specifically tells you what the problem is.
