I apologize up front for such a basic question but on the 'detail' screen, under 'available items' to choose, what does RSSI mean and why would I want it displayed? Also what does WACN mean and why would I want it displayed? And what does RFSS mean...and you know the rest.

Also. When scanning a P25 trunked system I don't always get a 'sys ID' to show up and the 'site ID' doesn't always show up either. Is there a trick to get those to 'show their numbers' or do they only show up if the system I am scanning sends out that signal?

Again, sorry for the basic question. Thank you.

RSSI - Received Signal Strength Indicator
WACN - Wide Area Communications Network - WACN identifies the system for a given network in combination with System ID will uniquely identify a system.
RFSS - The P25 RFSS Network Controller (RNC) is the central controller for a Radio Frequency Subsystem(RFSS) providing call management within the system.

Let's carry this one step further - what does the P25 NAC do and why do I need it when I have the other identifiers above? The P25 NAC
code is usually just flashing if it displays at all.

If it's flashing you are in NAC search and don't have the NAC set.

Network Acess Code

If NAC is enabled only a system with that NAC will be heard.

Thanks for the NAC info. But be aware that a LOT of the NAC codes listed in Radio Reference are not correct.
If you turn the NAC on in your scanner it "may" stop receiving anything because the NAC code from RR will not match
what is actually being transmitted.

The Uniden newer scanners have the option of not using the NAC code and then it is ignored by the scanner.

Thanks for the info everyone. I appreciate it. What about the P25 site not showing in the spot for it? Or the system ID? Can't figure those out yet.

Which is why I traveled 150 miles to get NAC codes to submit

Besides if you are listening to a system and have the NAC flashing in search mode, it's probably safe to put that NAC on that tower.

I have a display question as well. In the operating instructions it states that the digital error code is available but I cannot see how to enable it on either the simple or detailed screens. It was easy to do with the 536 but maybe not so easy with the sds100 or 200's

Thank You,

Pick an empty area or an area you want to change and select it in custom display.

The Sys ID and the site ID come from the data that is decoded from the control channel. It usually takes a second or
two of decoding the control channel for those to appear. It is also not unusual to see them flashing on and off during a transmission.
It all depends on how well the scanner is able to decode the control channel for a particular site. You might also see
your bars of signal strength bouncing as well. The fact that you are getting them at all is a good indication your scanner
is working properly.
