BCT15X: DIY programing cable??

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if i can just cut the serial connector from the programming cable for my bct15x and rewire it with a usb connector. i have the skills to do the job just wondering will it work? Also can anyone tell me what type of connector it is on the other end of the same cable that plugs into the scanner? Thankyou in advance for any info anyone could share on this subject.

That will NOT work. Serial and USB use different signal voltage, polarity, and data communication protocols.

You need to get a USB to serial converter, like this:
