• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

They are not (one bit off). Mototrbo Enhanced Privacy is compatible with Kenwood NX-3xxx/5xxx enhanced encryption though!

Make sure the key is labeled the same on both radios and in the same key slot. I have a xpr7550 and a nx-5300 talking together using enhanced ARC4 encryption on Dmr

Also make sure that one radio isn't using hex and the other using decimal. I ran into that issue with Motorola and Harris. Motorola uses hex, while I'm pretty sure everybody else uses decimal.

Good call, the Nx series radios use hex...

So which is it?
on my NX-5300 for ARC4/enhanced privacy I use the same exact code for the encryption. If using DES encryption motorola uses Decimal and Nx series uses HEX

Yep. Using it on a whole fleet right now that's mixed between XPR7350s, XPR3x00s, and NX3300s. No issues. As the others said, make sure everything matches up.

As far as I know they're all looking for a hexadecimal string for the key itself, but make sure the key IDs match up. That's what tripped me up (Moto uses hex key ID, Harris uses decimal).

Getting off topic but throw Anytone into the conversation.

It works but given my experiments with using enhanced encryption from the R7 down to the 6550, it’s not that great but i’m not complaining. Anytone throws it in as a firmware update. Makes me feel dirty…

Agreed.... for me Anytone adding AES & ARC4 was just a very unexpected bonus (especially ARC4).

As far as BP goes, I've heard rumours that some of the off brand radios (BTECH maybe) were compatible, but for the most part... nothing is. It's Moto proprietary.
