Haywood DMR

Then that's what we'll do, I appreciate it very much. I'd be very interested in hearing what the Ski Area is doing in the winter...do you know where those listings are to be found? An FCC search? I don't see them in the database.

Unless you travel a lot out of state, Provoice isn't worth it since nobody in NC uses it anymore(Johnston Co just switched from EDACS Provoice to a P25 system).

Several Haywood County VFD's have DMR private and tactical channels as well as Cataloochee Ski Resort & other businesses run DMR in that area. If you have an interest in listening to these agencies, DMR is most certainly worth the money to upgrade.

A good place to start for DMR: Digital Frequency Search

Also, I have a buddy of mine that lives in Haywood and I'm trying to get him to submit the VFD private DMR channels to the database that he's already Identified so stay tuned.

That would be terrific, whatever it is that we can do to do that is fine. I did an FCC search and found that there were two groups listed as Cataloochee Ski Slopes Inc. and my guess that's a good start.

Anyone monitoring DMR in Greensboro? I found the following:

461.9125, CC5, Site 4. CAP system.

A license search found Guilford Technical Community College (#WNVI342), which would make sense given the multiple sites & campuses.

DMR discovery

Just upgraded my BCD996P2 to add DMR capability. Now I am swamped in research trying to find out the DMR sites, how to capture data, etc. Those of you ahead of me (maybe by years) could save me a bunch of time by giving me a quick tutorial for the Wake / Durham environment or point me to a web page, etc.

I did pull down a file I found. Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Frequency Search Results for Wake County. It lists 329 frequencies. But between color codes, LCN, etc. I am just guessing.

Thank you once again for allowing this neophyte to beg for help. :)

Looks like there are a few that are confirmed and listed on the RRDB:

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=9101

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=5591

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1978

The ones found on the Digital Frequency Search website are simply a starting point as they may not really be active as DMR. And, you may find others that are not licences properly for DMR but are using it (you'll need to run "searches" for those).

As far as the Digital Frequency Search results, focus on the "FB" frequencies and not so much the "MO" ones as a starting point.

Thank you. Can you explain the role of LCN and how it is calculated / derived?

In the simplest terms, LCN's are simply IDs of trunked system frequencies (a lookup table more or less) -- the controller tells a radio "use LCN 2" and the radio is programmed to know what frequency is assigned to that LCN number.

To be honest, I use Whistler radios mostly and Whistler programming doesn't care about LCNs or system types (other than "it's DMR") for DMR systems.

Uniden DOES care both about LCNs and the type of DMR system which makes it harder to program unless someone has already figure things out for you and shared that information on the RRDB.

I believe some Unidens have a LCN tool where essentially, you program the system type and frequencies, set the LCNs to "0" and the radio will try to figure out the proper LCN values. However, your success getting that thing to work varies widely (from what I've read - I've never used it).

Others use tools like DSD+ to figure out LCNs, etc.

I'll leave it to users who have the 996 to help you in this area.

Troymail, thanks again. I visited the DSD+ web site and there is not much info there. For example it doesn't even say in what environment it runs and what hardware is required. I will keep researching. It is all in good fun. carry on..

Okay, 454.3250, the Great White Whale.. If you complete an individual F.C.C. ULS search for the single freq. You will find nothing statewide. An individual search for the single freq. nationwide will return to you 91 separate paging and wireless companies authorized for that frequency.
If you complete an F.C.C. ULS search using the frequency block of 454.3240 to 454.3260. You will locate 15 paging and wireless companies headquartered statewide, but with the nationwide TEMP-FIXED authorization. You should not even think what a nationwide search of the block would return.
The 454, and 455 block of Paging and Wireless will drive you crazy, I wish you well on your endeavours
