• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Apologies if this is the wrong topic for this but I’m having an issue I can’t troubleshoot. Just picked up a Baofeng DM1701 (cheap **** yes I know) and have programmed it with a TRBO channel with talk group. Everything seems to be right however I cant seem to trigger the talk group I can hear other portables key up and speak and can respond once they’ve initiated the conversation however once it drops I key up and get nothing I can’t connect them again until the talk group has been triggered by them. Anyone have any ideas where I’ve gone wrong? Color code and time slots are right admit criteria is color code in call criteria is follow admit criteria what am I missing? Do I have the contact entered wrong?

Hotspot or repeater?
Reason why I ask is I was helping a friend program his Baofeng UV-5R a while back; discovered in DMR mode that going through a repeater was a no-go; it transmitted on BOTH time slots! He could only go through his hotspot simplex.

Through a repeater.... I’m able to use repeater for other talk groups perfectly though..... is UV-5R digital? I’m unable to secure the talk group but can talk once the other radio initiates

The DM-5R had a design bug that forced it to transmit on both timeslots regardless of programming. It's not fixable, and that model should never be used on repeaters.

Yep; figured that out. Returned the HT to the owner with that same advice. He was okay with it as he was only intending to use it for his hot spot anyway. I was wanting to give him a little flexibility outside his home with some repeaters. Oh well....

Versions 1 and 2 have the design flaw. Version 3 does not. I have both. The version 3 screen layout is similar to the GD-77 layout.
