    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

DMR / MotoTRBO *simplex* sound samples?

Been hearing a few signals around that are obviously direct / simplex transmissions. Think they may be DMR or MotoTRBO, but not sure. The sound sample I captured is pretty poor, so perhaps it might be best to ask if anyone here has a nice clear sample of DMR in direct mode for me to compare & hopefully make the ID of the signal.

I'm aware of the samples already on the net, but they don't specify if any of them are direct or simplex mode and have to assume they're via a DMR repeater.

Oh, also is there any difference in the sound if the DMR / MotoTRBO is scrambled / encrypted? As I understand it there's two levels of encryption, a simple one available to everyone, and a more detailed one that you have to justify & purchase.

Two levels of encryption are available in MOTOTRBO radios - Basic and Enhanced. Basic encryption is comparable to analog inversion scrambling. Enhanced Encryption is comparable to analog rolling code scrambling. Both are standard in all MOTOTRBO radios - no extra cost for either one.

Enhanced Privacy is no longer "no extra cost". With the addition of the XPR3500 it's an extra $50 per radio. But such is the price of getting a "cheap" TRBO radio. :)
