Quick question. upon purchasing the DMR/NXDN upgrade key, do the respective systems have to be programmed? or essentially are they like the "full database" in which they come programmed and ready via Zip code feature? Or does each one have to be individually programmed via sentinel?

Either way works if I remember correctly. Both.

I ff you are referring to a system that is already in the RadioReference database, and is in the database version written to the scanner, the system would be scanned if using location and the main database in the scanner. Presuming, of course that it is in range based on the range and location details being used by the scanner.

A DMR (or NXDN) system could be in the RR databas online, but not be included in the database in Sentinel (that has been written to the scanner) if it does not yet have any talkgroups listed for the system, or is missing other required information such as LCNs or channel numbers. This, of course, is presuming that the scanner is set to use location control via the main database.11

While the RR Database may or may not have those DMR/NXDN systems included, (it’s all about the voluntary contributions submitted by the users and in some cases the administrators of the Database), the Uniden SDS100/200 won’t work correctly if at all until the key is installed. But you still have to choose which systems/agencies to include in any Favorites Lists (FL’s) you choose to build for your SDS100… or did I miss your meaning?

I use Butel ARC PRO to program. And if memory serves me correctly, a trunked system that you try to include without choosing BOTH sites and talk groups (TG’s) will get you a prompt to choose some sites or TG’s before continuing. I suspect Sentinel and ProScan work likewise.

If you are intent on using the zip code, you will be loading a lot more than what you can hear, distance wise. The “Range”, feature, measured in miles, does not limit what’s loaded into your scanners memory by the miles you set in the Range feature. I live in central Ct. When I try the zip code feature, I expected the scanner to use GPS to see where that zip code is (my location) and only load those systems/agencies within the Range I have chosen. But that’s not the case… I can set the range to zero miles, 1 mile, 5 miles, enter my zip and I still get all of Ct., and parts of Ma. and NY lorded into the scanner, and ALL OF IT will be scanned! …suggest you create FL’s and forget using zip code location feature.

I ordered an SDS100 with all the options and I use Sentinel software to configure mine and I didn't have to do anything special for the NXDN and DMR systems in my area here. I use Favorite Lists and the location/range to select what i'm listening to. i use an external antenna that was nothing special but can receive Linn County/Cedar Rapids traffic from my house in Iowa City. I selected what systems I'm interested in and several are DMR and NXDN, it just always worked this way for me though but I don't think you'd need to do anything special after you unlock those features, it should just decode what it couldn't before I suppose?

As long as you bought the keys for DMR (and NXDN, if you chose to monitor those as well), you shouldn't have any issues, unless any are encrypted.

There can be some unlisted DMR and NXDN in use, too.... I'm glad I have all the options enabled on my SDS100, or I'd miss these!
