• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. I am restoring some old Radio Shack 2 & 3 channel CB walkie Talkies. I need TX & RX crystals..

I need 4 pairs. Please let me know if you still have working crystals and how much you'd sell them for.

Thank you.

Do you have old CB crystals?

Yes, I've been diagnosed, and even the ointment didn't seem to provide any relief.

I do have a TRC-206. A great hand held. I used it on road trips for the rear vehicle in the convoy and for coordinated passing maneuvers on back roads in Vermont.

I forget what's in there. I'll have to look.

I have to thank you for inspiring me to find this great collection of vintage radios:

Carolina Pirate's CB Radio Photo Gallery

I also have a 4-channel Radio Shack mobile crystal scanner. High tech! RS was great in the day.

Let me look tonight, but I believe I still have some used crystals that came out of a couple of TRC-206's I use to have years ago. I was thinking I had possibly channels 7,14 and 19?

Well I did find some of them, and I may have some more that were stored away after the last move.

Here is what I have found so far:

Channel 9 Transmit 27.065 Quantity (1)
Channel 9 Receive 26.610 Quantity (1)

Channel 14 Transmit 27.125 Quantity (2)
Channel 14 Receive 26.670 Quantity (1)

Channel 35 Transmit 27.355 Quantity (1)
Channel 35 Receive 26.900 Quantity (1)

Let me know if you are interested, it may be a day or two on checking of the others if they still exist.

Plated type crystals such as those used in old CBs and scanners tend to drift with age used or not so you may have a problem with them being off frequency. I hope you get lucky, finding a manufacturer with them still in their engineering records might be a bit difficult.

To put it simply, in single conversion receivers the local oscillator is either 455KHz above or below the RF so when they mix the result is the 455KHz intermediate frequency (IF) and other mixing products filtered out. With dual conversion the same principle applies only the offset is the same as the first IF, second conversion to 455KHz comes later. Now you see why receive crystal frequencies are not the same as transmit.

If you do get crystals, please be mindful that the diameter of the pins coming from the crystals are not all the same...don't push too hard when installing them...just a thought.

Walkie Talkie CB Crystals

I too am in need of a pair of transmit/receive crystals for my TRC-215. Already have Ch. 4, 13, 14, 21, 30. LMK what you have and how much. I happen to have a bag full of old ham radio crystals I'd be willing to trade outright for some CB crystals. Thanks! Darin

You're welcome Darin. Hopefully they have not drifted off frequency much, but hey the price was cheap!
