DoD Test Ranges

I'm a retired DoD Frequency Manager from a large Test Range. I see very little on test ranges. The Frequency Management Group (FMG) is composed of 22 Test Ranges across the US, Pacific, and Atlantic. I was chairman and vice chairman of these test ranges for 4 years. These Test Ranges use more frequencies than most post, camps or stations and are Federally controlled by DoD. Test Ranges use more than just Apco25 Trunk frequencies.

I would like to see a category for the FMG test ranges. I can provide all the locations and test range names, if required. My test range I managed for 30 years is US Army Yuma Proving Ground. (YPG).

Yes, I would like to see a category' Test Ranges', some are DoD, Commercial, etc. A lot of frequencies are utilized at these ranges not just trunk frequencies. Telemetry, Video, Radar, Trunk, 2 Way, etc. At a test range a lot of commercial freq assignments also assigned based on approved coordination. With the right receivers one could log in signals from these ranges. Not everything is APCO 25. There are Air to Ground, Mobile, Ground to Ground, tethered systems. A lot are of the time signals are of low power. The Frequency Management Group operates under the Range Commanders Council or RCC-xx group. These various groups meet once or twice per year on their discipline and expertise to meet others in the group from various ranges with updates in RF spectrum problem solving, technology, rules, events etc. Aerospace & Flight Test Radio Coordinating Council is another group outside DoD that approve telemetry frequencies assignments. These assignments are assigned to test ranges.

Below are Range Commanders Council (RCC) -Frequency Management Group (FMG) Member Test Ranges. To fill in spectrum assignments for all will take some time. So be patient. Only unclassified assignments will be submitted. Basically this will be a frequency range such as Radar 5-6 GHz, Telemetry L-band 1435-1535 MHz or If published single freqs like M119 AM for ATC OPS.

April 2004 the new DOD frequency plan was published.
To date all the changes haven't been made.
Why has this taken so long.

And just as another point here, anything for these DoD ranges that is not frequency related can be added to the wiki by the user - no DBA involved. If you need help with that, just yell...Mike
