Does anyone know or have the freqs for COSTCO warehouse? If not, where would I look?
Thanks Pros.

5 bucks says its either VHF DOT freqs or FRS. my guess is they just grab some of the frs's and multipacks of batteries they sell there and use them ;)

FRS is correct. If you look closely at their radios, you can see that's what they are using.

Costco Freq's (in SD county, CA)

Here in San Diego County I have visited a number of Costco's and almost all of them operate on either 154.6MHz or 154.57MHz. I THINK that I remember one which was (I believe) in the South Bay area which used 151.94 (I think - might have been 151.something else but was definitely 151.something!) but that could have been a Sams Club rather than a Costco - just can't recall.

Now for something wierd! Here in Carlsbad in north San Diego County, the Costco has a wierd setup! It uses 154.600MHz just like many others BUT, quite by accident I discovered that they also use a FRS channel (and again, sorry but I can't remember which one - I always just scan all the FRS channels when I am in the area to find it) with some kind of cross-band repeater setup which repeats the 154.600MHz traffic and/or vice-versa! Now I am pretty sure that such a setup is not 100% legal. I know that the 154.57MHz and 154.6MHz frequencies were once low power business frequencies but are now part of the MURS channel lineup and that the old licensed business users on these frequencies have been granted grandfather status (indefinitely?). From what I understand the latest version of the FCC rules regarding the MURS usage does NOT allow repeaters (as opposed to the early version which didn't really say one way or the other. And I know that repeaters are not allowed on FRS channels nor are they allowed (as far as I know) on the GMRS interstial frequencies (some of which are shared with the FRS channels) even if you have a GMRS license. And I won't even go into the slightly grey area of the business vs. personal usage issue on these frequencies. Considering all of this I have wondered for some time how and why this particular Costco is using such a system. Perhaps the why is to allow their 154.6MHz HT's to intercommunicate with less costly FRS/GMRS units to expand their number of usable handhelds in a relatively cheap way. The how - that's a little "weirder" to answer...I wonder if they are using a modified ham rig with cross-band repeat mode enabled (adding significantly to the whole illegality of the system!!) or some commercial cross-band setup?!? A "jury-rig" that some tech-head set up for them using two radios and a COR?!? Don't know, just don't know; every time I go there I want to ask someone who works there what gives though most probably haven't got a clue. I would LOVE to get to their back rooms and scope out the system in question!! I am fairly certain, given what I know about the frequencies they are using that the system can't be terribly legal unless they have gotten some wierd waiver from the FCC allowing it. Also, as far as I know, I cannot detect either a CTCSS tone or a DCS on either frequency's signal with my PRO96 or PRO97. Given that the system is pretty "non-standard" anyway I wouldn't put it past them to be using non-standard CTCSS or DCS tones as well - seems to me like running a cross-band repeater with COR only is just ASKING for trouble!!!

Just another mystery so far!

BTW - the Costco I am writing about is located in south Carlsbad near Palomar Airport; just FYI.

Which Costco store (city)? In Eureka they use 151.52 and 151.595.

Specifically, COSTCO Northridge and COSTCO Canoga Park. Im equidistant 1 mile as the crow flies from both. Thanks Pros.

Neither store looks like it has licensed frequencies, but I know they use radios at the Roscoe/Canoga store, and almost certainly Northridge too. Next time I'm around there I'll try to spend a few minutes checking. Unless you've got a scanner with SignalStalking, step 1, of course, is to try to peek at their HTs, try to get a radio type or model. And the antenna will often give you a clue as to whether it's UHF or VHF, so you at least know what bands to start searching. Most likely in the 151 or 154 business ranges, or between about 460.6 and 470. If I find anything I'll post it.

With as much RF junk as there is in the Valley, you might do best if you can park real close to the building and disconnect your antenna. Sometimes that will snag very close signals but not be overwhelmed by distant transmitters.

Those are the locations that I shop, too.

Antennas: the fat ones are VHF and the skinny (whip) ones are UHF, unless, of course, it is fat on the bottom and skinny near the top, then it is probably 800/900 MHz.

I believe that the Costco on Tampa is UHF.

UPDATE: According to http://www.n6lhv.net/valleyscan.html , the Costco in Canoga Park (Roscoe and Canoga) is 154.6000 (CTCSS 77.0).
