Wildfire in the 8900 block of Sun Country hits 300 acres and 100% contained at this hour. Evacuations made on Fox Wood Loop lifted by incident commander
Crews receive call for wildfire fire just after 4:30pm. Fire quickly spread to 300 acres with heavy winds in the area. Crews from Rattle Snake, Elizabeth, Kiowa, and South Metro Fire respond and contain fire. 10 homes evacuated without incident
Elbert County, CO August 31, 2011; Crews contained a Wildfire to 300 acres in the Sun Country subdivision. Lightning appears to be cause for the fire. 10 homes were evacuated on Fox Wood Loop as precaution to approaching fire lines. Crews stopped fire at 100 yards from residential homes in the neighborhood. Code Red notifications were used for the evacuations in the area.
35 fire fighters assisted with efforts and 16 fire apparatus. No injuries are being reported and no structural loss. This fire started just after 4:30pm. Crews contained fire at approximately 6:30pm.
The fire originated in the 8900 block of Sun Country drive in the Rattle Snake Fire Protection District where Chief Bryan Bowen commanded the incident. He had responding aid from Elizabeth Fire Protection District, Kiowa Fire Protection District, South Metro Fire Rescue and the Elbert County Sheriffs Office.
