Dover AFB

I visited my son in Elkton,MD over a week ago and I forgot to put in Dover AFB on my Pro 106,would I be able to pick it up the next time I visit? Been wanting to actually hear some Milair activity and I hope the next time I go up there I will hear some(Cecil county where he lives almost has nothing to listen to since they use ProVoice).

Hello,

DAFB uses a DoD 380 MHz P25 System with P25 Voice. The PRO 106 will track the system fine. Please be advised some encryption is being deployed on the system.

I'm sure my Pro 106 would track it,it's a question if I'm close enough(delaware is such a short drive anyway)

Since I'm not a linux user,I'll more than likely will wait for a windows port if there ever is one and I don't have a discriminator tap on my scanner anyways.

Hello,

Monitoring DAFB from Cecil Co. is a stretch. Unless there is some good Tropo, chances are nil. Connecting the PRO 106 to a good outdoor antenna may increase your chances. However, Aberdeen Proving Ground P25 System in Harford Co should be trackable from Cecil Co.

There's a long running sticky thread in the Maryland forum for Milcom - up to version 5 if memory serves. Also if memory serves, there's at least 1 member from NorthEast - close enough to Elkton not to make much difference.

Obviously using a better antenna than a simple duckie will greatly improve your chances. There is a milair dedicated duckie Universal sells, and there are other good performing ones as well. For a mobile antenna, you would need something very broadbanded. Take a wander through our Scanner Antennas wiki and see what you can glean.
