The only reason to buy off of E-bay is price or availability of something no longer available..

I see scanners there new for the same price you can buy them from Radio Shack or Uniden

Why would anyone do that ? No Exchanges No warranty and possible fraud..makes no sense, unless your going to save big $$$$$$

So you don't get the factory warranty even if the unit is brand new?

The seller I am looking at has 10 of these scanners available with 1,585 transactions and 100% positive feedback. He also offers a 7 day money back return and offers a 3 year warranty for $35 through squaretrade.

Price is $90 less than scannermaster and radio shack.

Is there any downside with buying a brand new scanner off EBay?

Do you still get full warranty etc.?

Is there an upside???

Seriously, if you are finding a deal too good to be true on brand new items on scamBay, then you are setting yourself up for a big RIP OFF!

I purchased a BR330t from that seller on E-bay about 2 months ago. The unit was drop shipped from Uniden with a Uniden invoice. I have not had any issues wit the scanner and the sell went fine.

But that was just my experience.

That is good to hear. Do you think it was one of Uniden's "like new" condition scanners? Or was it brand new?

Ebay's fine as long as you watch out for shilled-up accounts and possibly stolen gear.

If the auction was clearly written by somebody who doesn't know what the equipment is, keep an eye out.

It looked and was packaged as a brand new unit. There were no indications of it being otherwise.

Have you asked the seller this question? With that many sales at 100% feedback he's probably honest.
He replied:

"No, these are not refurbished. These are all brand new/never opened with a a full one year warranty from Uniden.

Thanks!
Vic "

I also bought from this guy last month. The BR330t looked brand new to me. No scratches or anything. It was a great transaction for a great price.

I have made hundreds of purchases on eBay, and not once have I been disappointed. I do apply a great deal of common sense to who I bid from. With new items, unless it's based on price, I don't see any particular advantage or disadvantage to buying on eBay. Pay attention to the details. If the deal is too good, be wary. I've seen high end test equipment offered up "new" from places like Bosnia, at ridiculously low prices from low feedback sellers. Those are scams. Commercial sellers with high volumes and lots of positive feedback are, in general, safe places to make a purchase. I love eBay, I have a blast buying and selling there, and get some great deals. And I go there with my eyes wide open.

Mine was shipped FedEx ground.

I do agree with the comment made about doing your homework before making ANY e-bay purchase.

Always check the shipping cost on an Ebay item. Some sellers will have a low price for the item but a high shipping and handling cost. I think they do this for a couple of reasons. First, it lowers the commission they have to pay to Ebay. Second, it's not income so they don't have to pay taxes on it.

Some sellers will also have a high price AND high shipping. I can't figure that one out.

Also, know what you are buying and don't be afraid to ask questions.

I also check feedback carefully. I ignore the positive feedback and look over the negative and neutral feedback very carefully. Often you will spot trends such as "slow shipper" or "doesn't answer emails".

Ebay certainly has evolved over the past several years. It's gone from being a flea market of used and often rare stuff to a discount outlet for new stuff. I kind of liked the old way better.

Nothing wrong with ebay, if you know how to use it.

Here's a nice tool to show negative feedbacks of sellers on one page instead of having to leaf through many to find them - http://toolhaus.org/ - if a seller has less than 100% and few transactions I always use that tool to see whats going on.
