• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

is there a way to make it to where if someone were to TX some DTMF tones, could it make it to where a radio put out QC2? is this possible, and if so, what do I need to do it?

Easy (?) way to do it is have a radio that will trigger an out put based on the DTMF, that trigger would set off the input to another radio that would send the QCII.

Why tho?

my why is that I want to build a repeater type deal that has all sorts of stuff, and I thought that would be cool.

OK, if it's for a repeater, then there are probably other ways to do it with a good repeater controller and some outboard add ons.

Again why ? If its a repeater just use the radio to send the QCII command. I'd have to ask what the application is also as I'm sure if its ham or gmrs many folks wouldn't be thrilled to hear QCII tones going out all day.

Many repeater controllers are capable of sending QCII tones in response to a DTMF command. A friend of mine set his ham repeater up to do this for long tone zero so that he would be alerted if anyone tried to use that for help when he wasn't actively listening. Take a look in the manual for your controller. You may be surprised what features are available.

Disregard the following - I completely misread the question. I'll leave it here for prosperity.

It can be done with limitations. Look at a DTMF tone chart. You will be limited to one row or one column of digits. You will ignore the common DTMF tone for that group, only use the differing tones.

I used this for temporary setups with pagers and old radios that couldn't encode QCII but had a DTMF keypad. Just tell the user to hold the digits for a second or two.
