Heard the first traffic on DSO4 (Durham sheriff's channel 4) today 11/16 on way in to work...this may signal the first shift of DSO from longtime UHF to trunked system.

Also heard DPD drug unit members on analog trunking making plans to turn in their radios this week to convert or use new ones for digital transmissions.

An inquiry to Rik Rasmussen, radio sys mgr. for Durham confirmed that a list of digital TG nos. (are you listening, marshall?) will be made available to news organizations. If Marshall doesn't get it first, i will be glad to post the new general TGs for RR database or at least send them on to Marshall for a proper posting....

Most of you already prob. know this, but Rik confirmed digital talkgroups with require a new TG number, hence, the new TG list. I assume many of the older TGs will remain....FYI...

Why do you think it matters?

My understanding is Durham is a simulcast system. So going to the Durham page in the database, I simply entered the four control channels into my radio and enabled control channel only scanning...

So sorry.

Excuse me for asking.
I wasn't sure if they were going to Viper or the Durham system.

I think you misunderstood. I was trying to clear up a misunderstanding on your part or my part?

My guess is that the P25 encoding is restricted to certain voice channels... But the control channel needs to hand out voice channels to P25 and analog users.
