• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Anybody familiar with the E5 head? I saw a video where the display turns black and only the channel/menu color is displayed. Does anybody know how to achieve this?

Google search "Motorola E5 head" and download the user manual. The answer to this question and more will be contained therein.

Yes, this is a great feature and I love it. I use it all the time. You can program it in the APX software to remember your day/night setting if you want.

The O3 does support it, it's an assignable function. The manual as of March 2022 says it's supported.

What the manual says and what the radio does are two different things...

Interesting...I have a 8500 with an O3 HHCH and using the softkey it will go bright, dim, no light on short press and long press does nothing.

Same here, several O3s were tested on several APX radios all at FW 27.02. Holding the button does nothing.

I was wrong, two different Motorola manuals contradict each other. The user guide makes no mention of day/night mode and the manual I posted earlier does. F...... Y.... Motorola.

All good. Motorola is the epitome of the expression "the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing"

They probably blindly copied/pasted stuff from a different manual into the O3 manual. You'll find the same in the APX service manuals...lots of contradictory and outdated info, even in the most recent revisions.

It's worth noting that the O3 head is nothing more than a 6000/8000 display module inside a handheld mic. It's likely that there is no night mode capability for them, unlike the mobile displays. The closest thing you'd get is the night vision mode that the SRX 2200 and APX 8000 with SRX package are capable of.

It could be worse. When I was at Sprint (through a "merger of equals", not by choice) the left hand didn't even know the right hand existed some times.
