I know eams are broadcasted on the shortwave but I’ve also seen them on 311.000 MHz I don’t know why though and are they sent out using AFSATCOM, also what’s the difference between an EAM and a skyking message and what actions do they authorize.

  • EAMs
These messages are a specialized skill that involves quickly communicating important information during emergencies, such as sending urgent messages to government officials or military personnel. EAMs can be transmitted using specialized communication systems, such as computers or radios. The DIRECT Messaging System is one secure system that can be used to create, send, receive, and process EAMs.
  • Skyking messages
Also known as "Foxtrot Broadcasts", these messages are time-sensitive and have a higher priority than EAMs, containing code for orders that need immediate attention. Skyking messages can interrupt EAMs if necessary. They are encrypted using a one-time pad, making them impossible to decrypt.

The were sent digitally (ASCII) decades ago (243.7 MHz at 75 Bd) on the UHF AFSATCOM but that was terminated decades ago. They still use SHF satellites though (no further info). And they are transmitted at 50 Bd/50 Hz shift Baudot teletype by USN TACAMO aircraft at times (commonly on 17.7, 22.7, or 27.2 kHz but other have been used). All are the same message as the HF and UHF voice. And they are certainly transmitted by other un-identified means.

Correction:(typo) 17.7 above was meant to be 17.8.
