We just had a thread about what's out and about in the evening, and it made me wonder, "what are the early-morning people finding?"

When  Kp is low, I've been getting some nice reception for RNZI on 7.725 and 7.740. WWCR is generally a strong, steady signal from dusk til dawn. WBCQ on 9.930 comes in and out through the night. WRMI on 9.455 has been reliable the past week or so, but it's not a regular occurrence.

And what I'm calling "early morning" is about 0300 Central DST - 0800 CDST or 0800 to 1300 UTC, relative to my QTH.

I don't care if it's broadcast or utility, what gets your attention in the wee hours?

Nothing currently, as I mostly listen in the evening/nights these days. In the past (late 80's to the early 2000's) I would get up early to try to catch elusive broadcast stations in Asia and the Pacific: Tahiti, Solomon Islands, Vietnam, North Korea, Indonesia, domestic shortwave broadcasters in Australia and China, etc.

Most of the time, I did not snag that rare station I was after. Often, I would finish out the session by tuning into Radio Australia on 9580kHz.

I would bet those low power domestic stations in Australia are history. China still has a huge presence on shortwave, so perhaps some of the low power domestics are still on the air.

Great question, great responses. I've been listening on 1690 kHz lately 'cause I'm an avid AM radio DX'er There are two AM stations on this frequency that fade in and out. One is WPTX, an oldies station from MD. The other is a Greek music station, CHTO from Toronto..

I'm in NJ also and never heard CHTO. I can get WPTX throughout the day, even in the car.
