• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I don't know about you guys but I'm not aware of any department that sells or gets rid of their radios with the AES key still in it. Not to mention that this seller has posted all sorts of sketcky listings in the past saying he is "Selling them for his company" and that the radios are "buy it now" and if you put down a bid it will be ignored and deleted. And 2 APX7000 radios for $2300?? It's too bad that there isn't a picture of the serial numbers anywhere so that it could be verified.

What did the seller say when you contacted them and asked for the serial numbers and the flashcode for each radio?

Yep, plus the fact that he says he won't respond to any communications through Ebay… only through his private email. BIG red flag there!

A few years ago I got a XTL5000 that did. Looking at the channel names, it was in a fire truck on an Air Force base. AES, & all. I’ve seen ex Gov‘t radios with holes drilled in them. I’ve also seen brand new, but 10 year old radios that were never used from the Gov’t. Just depends who used them.

Yeah those listing we just back up yesterday, and gone like the wind today. It called like "epawn" or something, and you MUST email them for questions, In fact I did and I will provide what they said down here. But they had 2 APX7000XEs V/UHF, and 2 APX8000XEs, and 1 APX8000HR, and 2 lots of APX6000XEs. One APX8K listing was up to $2000 dollars, but today they were all gone, and they were being sold by different sellers with the same pictures, and description. Really sketchy if you see these listings again that start at like $5.00 dollars and stay at that price, and have a "Buy it now of $3000," In a separate picture it's fake.

The email:
Hi,

Thank you for your interest in purchasing this item at the price of US $3,000.00 (price includes shipping). The item is in perfect condition, this is a stock liquidation, I have closed my business (pawnshop) and I recently moved to Spain.

Shipping will be made from my storage in the US.

We will complete this sale using the Purchase Protection program from eBay, which will protect us in this transaction. There is also a 30 day return policy.

If you are ready to buy this item please provide me with your full shipping address & your full name, then you will be contacted by eBay with the eBay Invoice for your purchase.

Waiting you reply

Thanks!

What's also unfortunate is that if someone gets tossed off of e-bay (for shady deals, or whatever) all the offender has to do is to create a new account and then they pull the same BS!

One thing I can suggest-and I realize this might not be the perfect solution but it might help-is look at the sellers' rating, and quantity of ratings. If they've got more positive than negative feedback, that's a step in the right direction; if they have a lot of positive feedback, even better/safer. Also check out the comments in the feedback (if you have time), and check for any "glitches" (or plusses) in a sellers' actions.

What I've noticed with the person that is trying to get rid of these radios is that it's never on the same ebay account. Either he has a lot of ebay accounts with great feedback or he is somehow accessing other users accounts and posting them. It's never the same seller name. Very weird.

At this point it's been well over 20 different times that I have seen it. Regardless, it's fishy

Those radios have been posted and reposted multiple times. Very odd.

I have had people surplus radios and do exactly that. It does not occur to them at all there there is anything wrong with it. To them they are just getting rid of a walkie talkie. I've tried to make it known that they all need to be flushed before disposal, but it's difficult to get people to listen.

And they do the same thing with old cell phones. Just get a new one and toss the old one.

I've seen the same thing with hard drives. People think that deleting the files means the hard drive is wiped.

I've begged and pleaded with our PD and other groups to let me wipe the radios. I do it for free! Most of them understand now, but there's still a few that'll toss them fully loaded with frequencies.

When I shut down our old SmartNet system, I purposely required all the radios to be turned in to me so the other systems we had on the radios could be wiped. That was in 2011. I still occasionally run across a few radios that someone had in a drawer.

Might be because when a person gets thrown out of E-bay there's nothing to stop that person from creating an endless string of new accounts.

But it's not new accounts, it's accounts with hundreds of feedback and a few years on ebay. I have yet to see the same listing on a constantly new account.

More than likely they are hijacking eBay accounts with very weak or compromised passwords. All of the sudden an eBay user who has a history of only purchasing non-radio related items suddenly starts selling high end radios at less than market value.

remember, if it’s too good to be true.......
