• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Echo boxes/chambers

Where is a good spot to buy something like this? Searched up and down on ebay and either they're way to expensive from Redmond cb. Although I have gotten other stuff from them on ebay. Or people don't ship to canada. Or they don't plug into the wall. Would like to compliment the d104 on the cobra 2000 with something like this.

Any shops sell these at a reasonable price and ship to canada?

Also one that includes a Roger beep would be nice too.

Wanted for the base. Not a mobile. Also should be for a 5 pin cobra not 4 pin.

Reverb sound would be preferred over echo echo echo ...

And don't wanna do the echo board either. Im not that tehnical to install one.

Just may $.0002. It is not legal even in Canada to install this type of device on radios. It is also crap like this that make the frequency's sound like *&^*&^ and when people using a stock radio have their system sounding bad to start with, then add some thing like this, they sound worse.

As to your question, their are still a very few places that sell these things, but as I have not kept up with them over the last few years, I can not tell you who they are any more.

Be nice to others, leave your 2000 stock.

Do you have any sort of link to the Radio Act regs? I highly doubt there's anything in there regarding these devices. Industry Canada is pretty much hands off on CB radio.

Idle Monitor: There echo or reverb mic's are out there on the net.

When the echo is held to a low level it is a help in understanding the audio in some cases when the received signal in the noise on SSB mostly and AM. Going to work once I could hear skip stations just starting to skip in, then one of the stations turned on his echo mic and it was a big help.

A local had a echo mic on his 2 meter rig, Man did that stir the local rule reciting hams. No law against it that we could see. But real funny. Amazing how grown adults can get wrapper around the axel over a insignificant thing.

Somebody once told me about a mod he'd done with an Astatic "Eagle" microphone, adding a delay line into the audio path to generate a controlled feedback loop or something; that's what he'd done. Use the search engine of your choice to find it.

Personally, I can't stand hearing the things on the air. They can make the signals hard to understand, especially on limited rigs like mine when they really turn up the echo. They can be fun to use in recording projects, though. We used one (actually a little box that connected between the microphone and the board) to record some of the announcements and stuff we used on the joke line.

I will say. They are very good with communication. You have questions they'll work through them with you.

Essentially I am looking for something that will plug into a 5 pin. It seems a 5 pin 2000 is a rare type?

Most out there are all 4 pin. I have been searching around online in a few places but haven't seen anything I can put together.

I don't want to add an echo board. Strictly desk mic. Something as strong as a D104. The radio itself is stock and works. A little off frequency but I can deal with that. I can still tune in closely.

Having the whole radio setup in just a short time I like how the radio works. Its been a while since I was able to get into to the jist of how cb operates again. Have been able to make some quick long distance contacts on ssb.

echo mics and noise toys are being replace by hi-fi equipment around my area (NYC) some of these young rookies just starting and some of the old times on cb radio are throwing away all that modulation destortion junk in the grabage, they have this trend now about sounding stereo and hi-fi so you might find lots of echo mics , boards etc on e bay and greglist for really good price.
