After switching over to Windows 10, the audio out was garbled and I was unable to correct it. Also, Echolink did not have a proper uninstaller and after trying to uninstall it, I lost functionally of Start and search on Windows 10. I ended up having the system reinstalled with windows 8.1 and then updated to 10. I tried a 2nd time and ended up with the same results. I was able to restore the computer prior to the 2nd attempt and got Start and Search back. Echolink has not been updated since 2003. I would advise avoiding an update to 10 if possible. There is a known problem with the InstallShield un-installer on Windows 8 and Windows 10. Please do not attempt to un-install this EchoLink package after you've installed it. An updated package that is compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 10 is in the works. I hope they will update the version too.

The exact reason I refuse Micro Softs free offer to upgrade to Windows 10. I've been told of many other programs that have problems running on 10.

Hi,
I encountered lot of troubles with Windows 10 and echolink too, but also with several other softwares regarding radio an other stuff. To me, at the moment the problem is that it's impossible to solve those issues with the O.S. simulation mode ("Run as"... Windows 8 or even Windows7) which worked in the past for other software that worked only with previous versions of Windows.

To me, at the moment Windows 10 is absolutely too young, which is the same problem encountered with EVERY previous version of Windows... I'm wondering when people in Microsoft will start to distribute their O.S. only when ready to work with every software and peripheric.

Is the problem that Windows 10 is too young or that the application software hasn't kept up?

I see many amateur radio programs that are stuck in a Windows XP environment. It's certainly not Microsoft's fault that these programs haven't been updated. Microsoft stopped shipping XP over 7 years ago.

I know that my employer is continually scrambling to keep our application software up to date with the Windows operating system. We can't stop Microsoft from advancing the OS, so we are forced to update our applications.

BTW, here's a link to a page on the Echolink site that talks about how to run Echolink under later versions of Windows:

I've been told that MS rushed WIN 10 to market to in time for the back to school/campus sales. Even their new browser is not the full version yet.

So far, my Gateway laptop has worked fine after the upgrade. I haven't downloaded anything since. I'm watching closely for reports of ham/scanning programs on WIN 10. I have another laptop running XP I run programs like Echolink and WIN500.

I think you're right too...
But unfortunately, in cases like these, where the software has a restricted number of users (compared, for example, to the huge number of users of an O.S.) it's difficult for a little software house to always keep their products updated.
As mentioned before, in the past there was always the possibility to run programs with the previous O.S. simulation mode. And... SOMETIMES, it worked..
At the moment I see that in lot of cases this is still not working in win10.

echolink

I had to do a factory reset and it installed windows 10. i can get echolink to connect to LINKS but NOT to repeaters (/r nodes). i have enabled the firewall for echolink. can anyone figure out what i need to do next so that i may connect to repeaters on echolink? when i attempt to connect to a repeater it sits there for awhile then eventually says, "cannot connect to (and names the node)"
